On October 23, Wuxi will host one of the most decisive meetings in recent World Taekwondo history. Delegates from more than 200 nations will gather for the 2025 General Assembly, where elections and key governance discussions are expected to shape the organization’s next chapter.
The 2025 World Taekwondo (WT) General Assembly will take place on Thursday, October 23, at the Worldhotel Grand Juna in Wuxi, China, running alongside the World Taekwondo Championships.
The meeting, held in a hybrid format, will bring together Member National Associations (MNAs), Council Members, and observers, reaffirming Wuxi’s role as a political and strategic hub for the sport’s global administration.

Elections and Participation Framework
WT confirmed that the afternoon session will include electoral proceedings, conducted electronically and anonymously through the Lumi Platform—with simultaneous access for both in-person and virtual delegates.
Each Level I MNA will exercise one official vote (delegated to its President or registered proxy), while Level II, Provisional, and Associate Members will attend as observers without voting rights.
The registration process, managed through the WT GMS platform, closed on October 10, 2025, with WT’s Membership & Integrity Department enforcing a strict deadline. Only MNAs that registered by this date were deemed eligible to vote or participate formally in the Assembly.
Credentialing for in-person delegates will take place between 07:30 and 09:00 at the venue’s main lobby.
Political Weight and Continental Tensions
This year’s Assembly carries significant political weight. It will be the first major governance gathering following a year of institutional realignments across continental unions and renewed calls for electoral transparency and organizational reform.
According to several delegates, proposals are expected from Latin American, European, and African MNAs, focusing on democratization, gender equity in leadership, and stronger continental autonomy.
The morning session will cover administrative and membership reports, while the afternoon session will focus on elections, concluding at 17:00 local time (GMT+8).
Between Tradition and Transformation
Beyond its procedural nature, the General Assembly represents a turning point for World Taekwondo. As the federation seeks to strengthen its governance and global reputation, Wuxi emerges as the symbolic ground where leadership will define its Olympic path toward 2029.
Official election results will be released at the end of the session, followed by a Welcome Dinner at 19:30, marking the first appearance of the newly elected leadership and the beginning of a new administrative cycle.
