Greece will mark a milestone in the development of its Poomsae program by sending its first officially organized national team to a World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships.

The Hellenic Taekwondo Federation announced that 25 Greek athletes will compete at the Chuncheon 2026 World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships, scheduled for September 16–20 in the Republic of Korea.

The delegation will enter both Recognized Poomsae and Freestyle Poomsae categories, joining leading athletes from around the world at one of the discipline’s most important competitions.

A new stage for Greek Poomsae

The significance of the announcement goes beyond Greece’s participation in Chuncheon. According to the national federation, this will be the country’s first organized presence through an official national Poomsae team at the World Championships.

The delegation represents the result of a long-term development process and establishes a new international pathway for Greek athletes in a discipline that continues to expand worldwide.

Recognized Poomsae evaluates elements such as accuracy, technical execution, balance, power and overall presentation. Freestyle combines Taekwondo technique with demanding athletic, acrobatic and creative elements.

From Greece to the birthplace of Taekwondo

The Hellenic federation highlighted the symbolism of travelling from Greece, the birthplace of the Olympic Games, to Korea, the birthplace of Taekwondo.

Greek public broadcaster ERT will serve as the delegation’s media sponsor, supporting coverage of a participation the federation considers historic for the country’s Poomsae program.

With 25 athletes preparing to compete on the sport’s biggest stage, Chuncheon 2026 will represent both the culmination of years of development and the beginning of a new chapter for Greek Poomsae.
