Daedo Announces Gen3X: Electronic Punch Detection for Astana 2026

The company will bring its updated system to the Grand Prix Final. Gen3X introduces punch detection across the body protector’s entire valid scoring area, including the lateral zones, while retaining compatibility with selected equipment from previous generations.

Daedo anuncia Gen3X: detección electrónica de puños para Astaná 2026

Daedo announced that it will bring Gen3X, the latest evolution of its electronic Protector and Scoring System (PSS), to the Astana 2026 Grand Prix Final. According to the company, the key innovation is electronic punch detection across the body protector’s entire valid scoring area, including the lateral zones.

The update introduces a specific distinction from its predecessor: Daedo states that electronic punch detection was not included in the approved configuration of the Gen3 system. Gen3X adds this capability following a process of development, athlete testing, and technical refinement.

For athletes, coaches, and officials, the update centers on a specific Kyorugi technique: the punch to the trunk. Daedo’s new system extends electronic detection throughout the protector’s permitted scoring area, covering both the front and sides.

From Demonstrations in Korea to Competition Testing

Gen3X underwent several stages of development. According to Daedo, the system was initially presented at a demonstration in South Korea before World Taekwondo (WT) delegates, who observed its operation and advances in electronic punch detection.

Testing subsequently continued with athletes at a school in South Korea. The process then progressed to the Dracula Open 2026 in Romania, where the company says Gen3X underwent its first official competition test.

These stages allowed Daedo’s technical team to evaluate the system’s performance in different settings and make adjustments ahead of its implementation in international competition.

Which Equipment Changes—and What Remains Compatible?

Alongside the new detection capability, Gen3X features a redesigned electronic body protector. The transition also involves differences in component compatibility.

According to the company, Gen2 and Gen3 electronic headgear and sensor foot protectors are compatible with Gen3X. This allows users to retain some of their existing equipment when adopting the updated system.

However, the body protector and punch-sensing device are specific to Gen3X and are not interchangeable with those from previous generations.

The announced appearance in Astana will bring the new system to the Grand Prix Final stage. The press release does not specify activation thresholds or the officiating procedures associated with electronic punch detection—details that will be necessary to understand how the technology will be applied during bouts.
