Jordan and Iran win final golds as China tops Taiyuan 2026 medal table
Fadia Khirfan and Saghar Moradi Sheikhlar captured the final titles of the World Taekwondo Women’s Open Championships. China finished first in the medal standings after winning three of the eight divisions.
Jordan and Iran shared the final-day honours as the third edition of the World Taekwondo Women’s Open Championships concluded with nearly 60 countries represented in Taiyuan.
The Taiyuan 2026 World Taekwondo Women’s Open Championships concluded on Sunday, August 30, with gold medals for Jordan’s Fadia Khirfan and Iran’s Saghar Moradi Sheikhlar at the Shanxi Sports Centre.
The final competition day featured the women’s -57kg and -67kg divisions, completing the eight-category programme.
Fadia Khirfan delivers gold for Jordan
Fadia Khirfan, a bronze medallist at the Wuxi 2025 World Taekwondo Championships, claimed the women’s -57kg title after defeating Tunisia’s Chaima Toumi in the final.
Reigning Olympic champion Yu Jin Kim of Korea and Uzbekistan’s Shabona Abduvalieva completed the podium with bronze medals.
Khirfan’s victory secured Jordan’s only title of the Championships.
Saghar Moradi Sheikhlar closes the event with victory
Iran’s Saghar Moradi Sheikhlar captured the last gold medal awarded in Taiyuan after overcoming Greece’s Styliani Marentaki in the women’s -67kg final.
Marentaki, the reigning European champion, earned silver, while Serbia’s Olympic silver medallist Aleksandra Perišić and Korea’s Hyo Rim Hong shared the bronze medals.
Moradi Sheikhlar’s triumph placed Iran among the six nations that won at least one title during the three-day competition.
China finishes at the top
China concluded the Championships at the top of the medal table with three gold medals from the eight divisions contested.
The host nation secured its titles through Zinuo Shen in the -62kg category, Xiaolu Fu at -49kg and Xiaolu Wang at -53kg.
Morocco, Great Britain, Belgium, Jordan and Iran each captured one gold medal.
The third edition of the World Taekwondo Women’s Open Championships brought together athletes from nearly 60 countries and featured the largest field in the event’s history.
