China dominates day two with two golds as Sarah Chaâri triumphs in Taiyuan
Xiaolu Fu and Xiaolu Wang secured two titles for the host nation, while reigning world champion Sarah Chaâri delivered Belgium’s first gold at the Taiyuan 2026 World Taekwondo Women’s Open Championships.
China won two of the three divisions contested on the second day in Taiyuan and placed at least one athlete on every podium. Belgium completed the gold-medal lineup through Sarah Chaâri.
China took control of the second day of the Taiyuan 2026 World Taekwondo Women’s Open Championships, winning gold medals in the women’s -49kg and -53kg categories at the Shanxi Sports Centre.
Xiaolu Fu and Xiaolu Wang delivered the victories for the host nation, while Belgium’s Sarah Chaâri confirmed her status as reigning world champion with gold in the -73kg division.

Xiaolu Fu opens China’s golden day
Xiaolu Fu, a bronze medallist at the Wuxi 2025 World Taekwondo Championships, claimed the women’s -49kg title after defeating Chinese Taipei’s Chieh-ling Wang in the final.
Wang arrived in Taiyuan as a junior world champion but had to settle for silver against the Chinese representative.
China added another medal through Mixue Li, who shared the bronze positions with Türkiye’s Elif Sude Akgul.
China fills three places on the -53kg podium
The host nation strengthened its dominance in the women’s -53kg category by securing three of the four medals.
Xiaolu Wang defeated her compatriot Ju Zuo in the final to win China’s second gold of the day.
Another Chinese athlete, Zixuan Liu, earned bronze alongside Croatia’s Ozana Radic.
Sarah Chaâri confirms her world champion status
Belgium’s Sarah Chaâri stopped China from completing a clean sweep of the second-day titles.
The reigning world champion defeated Russia’s Anastasiia Kosmycheva in the women’s -73kg final. Kosmycheva had previously earned bronze at the Roma 2026 World Taekwondo Grand Prix.
Serbia’s Nadica Božanić and China’s Xuyan Chen completed the podium with bronze medals.
Chen’s result ensured that the host nation placed at least one athlete on every podium contested during the day.
Six divisions completed in Taiyuan
With six of the eight weight categories now decided, the Taiyuan 2026 World Taekwondo Women’s Open Championships will conclude on Sunday, August 30.
The final day will feature competition in the women’s -57kg and -67kg divisions.
