Rome 2026 Grand Prix Series Opens with Olympic, Paralympic and Institutional Spotlight
Rome officially launched the 2026 World Taekwondo Grand Prix Series with a high-profile press conference at the Museo dell’Ara Pacis, bringing together World Taekwondo leadership, Italian sports authorities and Olympic champion Vito Dell’Aquila ahead of a major week for Taekwondo and Para Taekwondo in the Italian capital.
ROME, Italy (June 3, 2026) – The Rome 2026 World Taekwondo Grand Prix Series was officially launched today during a high-profile press conference held at the iconic Auditorium of the Museo dell’Ara Pacis.
The press conference highlighted the upcoming World Para Taekwondo Grand Prix on June 4 and the World Taekwondo Grand Prix from June 5-7, which will welcome the world’s top Taekwondo and Para Taekwondo athletes to Rome.

Among the distinguished speakers were World Taekwondo President Chungwon Choue, Italian Minister for Sport and Youth Andrea Abodi, WT Council Member and Italian Taekwondo Federation President Angelo Cito, Rome Councillor for Major Events, Sport, Tourism and Fashion Alessandro Onorato, and Tokyo 2020 Olympic Champion Vito Dell’Aquila.
Also in attendance were Luciano Buonfiglio, President of the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI), Marco Giunio De Sanctis, President of the Italian Paralympic Committee (CIP), WT Vice President Jinbang Yang, WT Council Member Maher Magableh, WT Secretary General Jeongkang Seo, and WT Technical Delegate Philippe Bouedo, underlining the significance of the event for both sport and society.

The Rome Grand Prix Series will feature some of the world’s finest athletes. A total of 111 athletes from 29 countries will compete at the World Para Taekwondo Grand Prix, while the World Taekwondo Grand Prix will welcome 255 athletes from 51 countries, alongside the Taekwondo Refugee Team and World Taekwondo (Costa Rica).
The event attracted strong media interest, with numerous Italian journalists attending the press conference, reflecting the growing global profile of Taekwondo and Para Taekwondo as dynamic and inclusive Olympic and Paralympic sports.
Following the press conference, the Head of Team Meeting was held at the Hotel Barceló Roma.
