Competition will be held at the Martial Arts Sports Complex in the impressive Olympic City of Tashkent, bringing together the world’s most talented young athletes as they take the next step in their Taekwondo journeys.

A total of 986 athletes from 115 countries, along with the World Taekwondo Refugee Team and World Taekwondo (Costa Rica), have registered to compete. This surpasses the previous record of 963 athletes set at the Chuncheon 2024 World Taekwondo Junior Championships.

Men’s weight divisions range from -45kg to +78kg, while women’s divisions span -42kg to +68kg. Athletes born between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2011 are eligible to compete.

World Taekwondo President Chungwon Choue highlighted the importance of the event.

“The World Taekwondo Junior Championships hold a special place in our sport. They provide a vital platform to identify and nurture the next generation of elite athletes. With the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games scheduled for November 2026, this championship will be a particularly meaningful opportunity to discover future Taekwondo stars and emerging talents who will shape the future of our sport,” President Choue said.

“I extend my sincere appreciation to the Uzbekistan Taekwondo Association, the local authorities, and all stakeholders involved for their dedication and hard work in preparing this event.”

Tashkent previously hosted the 2019 World Taekwondo Cadet Championships, and excitement is building ahead of the World Taekwondo Junior Championships, including plans for a spectacular flash mob performance featuring 2,026 participants along with World Taekwondo Performance Team on April 10 before competition begins.

The World Taekwondo Council will also meet in Tashkent on April 10, followed by the World Taekwondo General Assembly on April 11.

The 2nd Olympism and Peace Forum will take place on the sidelines of the competition on April 13.

The next generation of Taekwondo talent from around the world will take centre stage in Tashkent.
