World Taekwondo President Dr Chungwon Choue opened the General Assembly by thanking the Uzbekistan Taekwondo Association and its President Sherzod Tashmatov for organising the Tashkent 2026 World Taekwondo Junior Championships, and highlighted yesterday’s stunning flash mob performance in the main square of the Olympic village.

President Choue then invited Mr Odil Abdurakhmanov, Advisor to the President of Uzbekistan on Youth, Science, Health, Culture, and Sports, to address the World Taekwondo General Assembly.

Mr Abdurakhmanov was presented with an appreciation plaque by President Choue for Uzbekistan’s efforts to host a memorable World Taekwondo Junior Championships.

In his report, President Choue looked back at developments since the 2025 World Taekwondo General Assembly in Wuxi, China and outlined plans for the future.

“It has been six months since our last meeting in Wuxi. This is the new Council’s first General Assembly,” President Choue said.

“From 31 January-2 February, we held an Extraordinary Council Meeting and initiated a workshop for the new Council in Fujairah to align ourselves with the missions of World Taekwondo, and we came up with three strategic priorities as guiding principles of our operations.

“It is easy to stay in our comfort zone and not change, but we must always stay ready and be relevant to the ever-changing times under the spirit of ‘Reborn Together’.”

The World Taekwondo General Assembly approved the 2025-2026 Operation and Finance Reports, and approved amendments to the World Taekwondo Statutes, World Para Taekwondo Competition Rules, World Taekwondo Articles of Association, and the Virtual Taekwondo Rules and Regulations.

A final report on the success of the Wuxi 2025 World Taekwondo Championships was additionally presented to the General Assembly, along with the report on the 2026 MNA Survey Results and MNA Rankings.
