Asian Taekwondo Union officially named Satoru Saito as Chair of its Poomsae Committee for 2026, confirming a technical appointment with direct relevance to development of the discipline across Asia.
The Asian Taekwondo Union (ATU) officially appointed Satoru Saito as Chairman of the Poomsae Committee for the term running from January 1, 2026 to December 31, 2026, according to an official letter of appointment signed by ATU President Sang Jin Kim.
The document, certified Saito’s appointment to one of the most important technical positions within the continental structure, at a time when Poomsae continues to strengthen its competitive and institutional relevance across Asia.

The appointment letter stated that ATU looks forward to Saito’s “valuable contributions” and dedicated service to the continued growth and development of the organization. Beyond its formal wording, the designation places Saito at the head of a committee with clear influence over the technical direction and promotion of Poomsae in one of the most significant regions in global Taekwondo.
Saito later publicly accepted the role and thanked the continental leadership for its confidence. “I am deeply honored to accept the appointment as the Chairman of the Poomsae Committee of the Asian Taekwondo Union,” he wrote. He also expressed his gratitude to President Sangjin Kim and ATU for their trust, adding that he is fully committed to upholding the highest standards of the sport and working with the committee to advance the excellence and development of Poomsae throughout the region.
The move fits into ATU’s broader technical structuring for the 2026 cycle, with key committee roles helping define how each area of the sport will be guided at continental level. In that context, Saito’s appointment stands as more than an internal administrative matter. In Asia, where Taekwondo continues to carry major technical and institutional weight, leadership changes in high-level committee positions often shape the direction of the discipline far beyond a single region.
For Poomsae, that makes this appointment especially relevant.
