SEOUL – Kukkiwon held a working meeting with Korean Taekwondo authorities, with the aim of aligning diagnoses on priority issues and opening an in-depth conversation on the direction of development for the coming months.

According to the statement released after the meeting, the meeting was held at Kukkiwon headquarters and was attended by Noh Soon-myung (chairman of the board), Yoon Woong-seok (president), Yang Jin-bang (president of the Korea Taekwondo Association), and representatives from 13 city and provincial Taekwondo associations.
What was on the table

The official summary indicated that the parties shared their views on “current issues” in Taekwondo in Korea and held a “deep” exchange on directions for growth and institutional improvement.
Although Kukkiwon did not publish detailed minutes of the meeting, subsequent reports and comments related to the coverage of the meeting circulated as key topics: policies to support dojangs, improvements to the examination/promotion system, and strategies for expansion into international markets.
Why this dialogue matters

In Korea, decisions about the structure, criteria, and administration of the grading system have a direct impact on the grassroots level: dojangs, instructors, practitioners, and regional associations. And when Kukkiwon, the national federation, and provincial associations sit down at the same table, the message is clear: they are seeking political and operational coordination at a time when the governance of domestic Taekwondo is often fraught with tensions and debates.
Context: a discussion that did not start yesterday

The “knot” surrounding exams and their administration has been a source of friction between institutions in recent years, with different interpretations of powers, the history of the system, and implementation models. For this reason, these types of meetings are often seen as an attempt to decompress, organize, and generate a roadmap before disagreements escalate.
Signs of management 2026: focus on structure and trust

At the same time, Kukkiwon has been showing internal organizational movements and technical appointments for the 2026 cycle, with public messages focused on institutional responsibility and strengthening credibility.
