DENMARK. Ky-Tu Dang, a historic figure in Danish Taekwondo and Poomsae world champion, announced that he is running for the board of directors of Dansk Taekwondo Forbund (DTaF) ahead of the extraordinary 2026 representative meeting, in a context of internal tension that has been dragging on since 2025 and has also impacted high performance.

The announcement came weeks after Team Danmark suspended cooperation and confirmed that it would not provide funding for 2026, as reported by MASTKD in November, based on reports linked to concerns about governance and resource management.

What Dang said and why the conflict escalated

In a lengthy statement posted on social media, Dang argued that the federation was going through “a historically critical moment” and blamed a “narrow majority” of the board for a climate of rupture with clubs and athletes. Among his main points, he claimed that the leadership:

– ignored consultations with clubs and national teams,
– restricted public debate on official channels,
– and exposed internal decisions through communications that, in his view, damaged institutional harmony.

MASTKD treated these statements as the candidate’s position, as the text did not provide supporting documentation for each specific accusation.

Key date: DTaF set an extraordinary assembly for February 15, 2026

Beyond the political tone of the post, Dang’s move was based on verifiable information: DTaF itself addressed the issue and decided to hold the extraordinary meeting on Sunday, February 15, 2026, according to the minutes of an online board meeting dated December 16, 2025.

In that same document, the leadership discussed the scope of the “nøddrift” (minimum operation) and stated that Team Danmark had communicated its desire to review the elite work before the end of January.

Statutory framework: request from clubs enabled the extraordinary meeting

The DTaF statutes established that the extraordinary representative meeting had to be held if one-third of the clubs requested it in writing, with an agenda included. This point became relevant because the public debate in Denmark revolved around the level of actual support from the clubs and the deadline set by the board.

Ky-Tu Dang did not burst onto the scene as a minor player: he is popularly known for being a Poomsae world champion and making history by becoming the first European to win gold at a WTF/WT Poomsae World Championship (2007 edition), which explains the symbolic weight of his candidacy in a federation that is currently discussing its direction.
