2025 WT Scoring Records Across PSS Systems Showed DAEDO Led Output, While KPNP and Waychamp Relied More on Protests

An analysis by Don Lewis, based on official World Taekwondo scoring records submitted from 23 of the largest G-class events in 2025 (including Senior World Championships), compared match-by-match outcomes across three Protector & Scoring Systems (PSS): DAEDO, KPNP and Waychamp. The dataset included round-level totals, body- and head-kick registration, and coach protest results—making what the author described as the most comprehensive PSS scoring dataset reported to date.

What the dataset covered

This compilation did not rely on video sampling. Instead, it drew from official scoring records provided to World Taekwondo for every round across the 23 events.

Within those events, the records included—for example:

  • Men: 10,355 rounds, 45,289 body kicks, 11,307 head kicks.
  • Women: 8,358 rounds, 25,811 body kicks, 9,057 head kicks.

The same records also tracked coach protests that were granted and rejected.

Key findings from the 2025 records (Don Lewis)

2025 WT Scoring Records Across PSS Systems Showed DAEDO Led Output, While KPNP and Waychamp Relied More on Protests

Based on the 2025 data, the author summarized the comparison as follows:

  • DAEDO produced the highest scoring output overall, registering the most body kicks and head kicks, while also showing fewer head kicks coming via protest and fewer protests overall.
  • KPNP head gear performed the worst, with the author stating that nearly half of legitimate kicks did not register.
  • Waychamp body gear was the hardest to score on by a large margin, and its head gear performance was described as about half as effective as DAEDO.
