Kukkiwon celebrated the assumption of President Yoon Woong-Seok
Seoul, Korea – Kukkiwon, the world headquarters of Taekwondo, held the official handover ceremony between its 17th and 18th presidents on November 6 at the Central Training Hall in Seoul. The ceremony marked the end of Lee Dong-Seop’s term and the formal inauguration of the new president, Yoon Woong-Seok.
Seoul, Korea – Kukkiwon, the world headquarters of Taekwondo, held the official handover ceremony between its 17th and 18th presidents on November 6 at the Central Training Hall in Seoul. The ceremony marked the end of Lee Dong-Seop’s term and the formal inauguration of the new president, Yoon Woong-Seok.

The ceremony gathered more than 500 guests, including key representatives from the Taekwondo community, academia, sports institutions, and media. Among the attendees were Yang Jin-bang, President of the Korea Taekwondo Association; Kim Joong-heon, Chairman of the Taekwondo Promotion Foundation; Kim Sang-jin, President of the Asian Taekwondo Union; Kim Sang-ik, President of the Korea Para Taekwondo Association; Lee Seung-wan, Chairman of the Kukkiwon Senior Advisory Council; as well as officials from United States, New Zealand, and local governments.
The ceremony included the formal opening, tribute to the national flag, presentation of authorities, farewell speech, presentation of plaques, inauguration speech, words of congratulations, and a commemorative photo.

In his inaugural address, President Yoon Woong-seok expressed gratitude and outlined his vision for the institution:
“I am deeply grateful to everyone who trusted me to take on this important responsibility. Taekwondo is no longer just a martial art, but a culture that promotes peace and coexistence, a path of character building for all humanity. Kukkiwon must be reborn at the center of this change. We will rebuild the institution on its two pillars: promotion exams and education.”
Congratulatory messages followed from Yang Jin-bang, Kim Joong-heon, Kim Sang-jin, and Seo Jeong-kang, Secretary General of World Taekwondo, who delivered remarks on behalf of WT President Chungwon Choue. The Governor of Jeollabuk-do, Kim Kwan-young, also sent a video message celebrating the transition.

The ceremony concluded with a commemorative performance and group photo, symbolizing continuity and renewal for the Kukkiwon’s role in global Taekwondo development.
