PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC — The Czech capital becomes a focal point for global dialogue on the role of sport in society this week as it hosts the 29th TAFISA World Congress, bringing together leaders, institutions and experts to examine sport beyond high performance.

Taking place from May 13 to 17 in Prague, the event gathers representatives from international organizations, federations, universities and governmental bodies. The program addresses key topics including inclusion, equity, youth leadership, active ageing, migration, sustainability and the role of sport in building more cohesive societies.

Within this framework, the presence of international bodies such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNESCO underscores the global and intersectoral relevance of the Congress. The event is also held under the official patronage of the President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, according to reports from the Prague Convention Bureau and Kongres Magazine.

In this context, Taekwondo will also be institutionally represented through members of its highest leadership, reflecting a broader trend in which International Federations engage in platforms that extend beyond competition and into the social impact of sport.

Prague Hosts Global Sport for All Congress as Taekwondo Aligns with a Broader International Agenda
Michna Palace (Tyrš House) in Prague, the historic headquarters of the Sokol movement, hosts the 29th TAFISA World Congress.

The presence linked to World Taekwondo (WT) —the International Federation recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC)— aligns with a wider strategic direction where Olympic sport seeks to reinforce its role within global agendas such as sustainability, inclusion and social responsibility.

Such forums reinforce a clear shift: sport is no longer defined solely by performance and competition, but increasingly positioned as a driver of public policy, diplomacy and social development on a global scale.

Prague, with its historical connection to the Sokol movement—one of Europe’s earliest organized expressions of community sport—provides a symbolic setting for this discussion, where the concept of “Sport for All” takes on strategic significance.

In an evolving international landscape where federations are redefining their scope beyond the field of play, Taekwondo’s presence in this environment confirms its alignment with a global agenda that looks firmly toward the future of sport as a tool for social transformation.
