DALLAS, Texas — The 2026 Dallas Open International Taekwondo Championship concluded on a highly positive balance after bringing together athletes, coaches, and officials from different countries over two days at one of the strongest events on the U.S. regional calendar. The event combined an official structure, international exposure, and an organization led by Grand Master Inseon Kim, a prominent figure within the global taekwondo community.
The championship featured a strategic format: Saturday featured USA Taekwondo 10.0 sanctioned competition, and Sunday featured Open Championships—a formula that allowed for the combination of high-performance competition, national ranking points, and broad participation from competitors of all levels.

What USATKD 10.0 Means
Saturday’s main competition held special significance as it was integrated into the official USA Taekwondo system as a 10.0 Ranking Point event. In practical terms, this category awards points toward the U.S. national ranking, with a direct impact on internal competitive standing.
This made the Dallas Open much more than just an open tournament: it was a significant stop within the U.S. competitive ecosystem.
Exclusive statements from Inseon Kim to MASTKD

In a conversation with MASTKD, Grand Master Inseon Kim highlighted:
“The goal was to offer an international-level experience for all participants. We wanted an event that combined competitive excellence, athletic development, and real opportunities for athletes of different ages and levels.”
He also highlighted the value of the championship’s dual format:
“The combination of an official ranking event and an international Open allowed us to attract different types of competitors. This strengthens the growth of Taekwondo and raises the overall level.”
Regarding the response from the public and the delegations, he added:
“We are very grateful for the support we received. Seeing athletes, coaches, and families enjoying the event confirms that Dallas can continue to grow as a major host city.”
The presence of Inseon Kim adds a special dimension to the tournament. In addition to leading the local organization, he serves on the World Taekwondo Executive Council, the central body where global policies, regulations, and the sport’s strategic direction are discussed.

He is also one of the three Technical Delegates (TDs) for the Pan American region. Within the structure of World Taekwondo and its continental federations, a TD is the highest operational technical authority designated to oversee official competitions: he monitors regulatory compliance, organizational standards, schedules, competition areas, referees, and overall event compliance.
The Dallas Open showcased talent across multiple divisions, featuring high-level matches, special demonstrations and a demo team competition that brought energy, creativity and a connection with the audience. The presence of internationally recognized referees and officials reinforced the championship’s professional standard.
