Asian official Jatuporn Hemwonno has been appointed Chair of the Para Taekwondo Committee of the Asian Taekwondo Union (ATU) for the term running from January 1 to December 31, 2026, according to the official appointment letter signed by ATU President Sang Jin Kim. Under the current structure of the continental union, the position carries direct influence over the organization, management, and development of Asian Para Taekwondo, in both Kyorugi and Poomsae.
The appointment does not appear to be an isolated move within ATU’s new technical landscape. The organization’s statutes establish that the Para Taekwondo Committee is responsible for reviewing the structure, organization, and administration of continental competitions, while also promoting competition formats for athletes with different types of disabilities and protecting their interests within the movement. That description confirms this is not a symbolic role, but a sensitive function within the continent’s technical architecture.
Hemwonno had already been moving in influential circles on the international scene. Her career includes work as a judge at different Olympic Games, a record that has placed her for years among the core group of officials with high-level experience.

At the same time, MASTKD had already identified her as part of the technical framework of the new Asian administration. In December 2025, during the launch of the ATU Referee Education Program, the organization highlighted the work of Kheh Jatuporn among the instructors who contributed to the academic content and overall quality of the program, presented as one of the first strategic pillars of Kim Sangjin’s administration. That earlier mention allows her current appointment to be read as part of the same technical-building process ATU has been consolidating.
The broader context also helps explain the political and technical weight of this move. ATU’s statutory structure places the Para Taekwondo area among the committees that form the foundation of its continental technical organization, at a stage in which the entity is seeking to organize functions, strengthen specialties, and project a more defined administration under Kim’s presidency. In that framework, Hemwonno’s arrival at the head of the committee appears to signal confidence in a profile with refereeing experience, international exposure, and recent background in the technical development of the sector.
Beyond the protocol tone of the announcement, the key fact is that ATU has just placed a technical leader with a proven record in Olympic and Paralympic environments at the head of its Para Taekwondo Committee, at a time when governance and technical specialization are carrying increasing weight within continental Taekwondo.
