In an exclusive interview with MASTKD, given immediately after the Executive Council meeting of World Taekwondo, Kim Sang-jin, President of the Asian Taekwondo Union, highlighted the practicality behind establishing ATU offices linked to Taekwondowon (Muju) and Seoul.
Kim said the decision was not driven by “anything special,” but by an operational logic: Muju would serve as an institutional base and a hub for cooperative work, while Seoul would concentrate the day-to-day operations. He emphasized that the Asian Taekwondo Union must also be able to host international visitors and key figures from the Asian Taekwondo community in the capital, while acknowledging a concrete limitation: access and transportation to Muju can be inconvenient for part of that agenda.
ATU opened an office in Taekwondowon Muju and reinforced its political strategy
With this two-office structure, ATU aimed to balance symbolism and infrastructure (Taekwondowon) with administrative efficiency (Seoul). For MASTKD, the news value of the statement was clear: Kim spelled out, without embellishment, the real operating architecture of a continental leadership—separating institutional representation from executive work.
