World Taekwondo (WT) today approved, through its Executive Council, a statutory amendment that ratified and redefined the role of the Global Integrity Unit (GIU) within the institutional structure of the organization, with a central emphasis on functional independence for its integrity and investigation tasks.

WT approved statutory changes: Disciplinary Tribunal, committees, and transition rules
According to the text approved by the Council, WT will maintain the GIU as a unit dedicated to “supporting transparency, compliance, and integrity” within the organization. The incorporated wording established that the GIU will operate with functional independence with respect to its integrity oversight and investigation functions, and that it will not be subject to the direction or influence of the Secretariat in the execution of these tasks, although it will continue to receive administrative support within the WT organizational framework.
The amendment was presented as a statutory clarification of the GIU’s role, separating its integrity and investigation role from adjudicative or disciplinary bodies.
WT reported that, although the amendment had already been approved by the Executive Council, the final adoption of the set of statutory changes was subject to final acceptance by the General Assembly.
