Gary Hall ended his historic cycle at GB Taekwondo and now leads the LA 2028 project from India
Former GB Taekwondo Executive Performance Director Gary Hall MBE has taken on the role of High-Performance Director at the Inspire Institute of Sport (IIS) in Vijayanagar, India, and has already led talent identification efforts for Taekwondo ahead of Los Angeles 2028, including trials in Assam alongside Olympic champion Jade Jones.
Former GB Taekwondo Executive Performance Director Gary Hall MBE has taken on the role of High-Performance Director at the Inspire Institute of Sport (IIS) in Vijayanagar, India, and has already led talent identification efforts for Taekwondo ahead of Los Angeles 2028, including trials in Assam alongside Olympic champion Jade Jones.
A new chapter
Hall left GB Taekwondo after 18 years leading the performance program, quoting that he was looking for “new opportunities” and closing an era marked by results and structure.
During his term, GB Taekwondo went from training in precarious conditions to operating at a National Taekwondo Center in East Manchester, a facility that Hall himself helped plan.
Legacy in numbers and model
Under his leadership, Great Britain won 10 Olympic and 4 Paralympic medals in recent cycles and was recognized as one of the powerhouses of international taekwondo.
GB Taekwondo also highlighted that Hall consolidated a Talent ID pathway and a comprehensive athlete development system, and that he also played a role in event strategy, including promoting competitions on British soil and linking up with the high-level circuit.
In his farewell speech, Hall thanked the athletes, coaches, and support teams, and emphasized a recurring theme: integrity, work ethic, and learning from challenges.
New role in India
In January 2025, Hall was announced as High-Performance Director of IIS, based in Vijayanagar, to develop high-performance strategies and lead multidisciplinary teams focused on Olympic performance.
IIS operates as a high-performance multisport center (not a federation), with training and support programs for athletes in various disciplines.
Immediate sign: scouting in Assam with Jade Jones
The most recent development in that work appeared on the Fighting Chance program, where IIS reported that Hall and Jade Jones OBE evaluated “raw talent” in Taekwondo in Assam, with the aim of identifying athletes who will gain international exposure as part of a long-term route to LA 2028.
