"Fujairah estrena nuevo formato de competencia", Nader Abushawish a MASTKD

FUJAIRAH, United Arab Emirates — In an exclusive conversation with MASTKD at Al Bahar Hotel—where, he explained, official activities have been centralized—event organizer Nader Abushawish outlined the operational strategy through which Fujairah has once again brought together two key milestones on the regional and international calendar within the same competition window: the Fujairah Open (15th edition) and the Arab Cup (6th edition).

According to Abushawish, the operational plan has been designed as a “block” structure that connects competition, institutional agenda, and international projection—positioning Fujairah as a continuity platform for high-impact events.

“Always Something New”: technical debut under new rules

Abushawish emphasized that one of Fujairah’s trademarks is delivering tangible innovations with every edition. In that context, he announced that official proceedings will begin “tomorrow” under the new rules, featuring a technical detail he highlighted during the interview: the use of a single judge.

He added that the new rules will also be implemented in youth divisions as part of preparations toward the World Junior Championships.

From Taekwondo to a multi-sport model

In another part of the conversation, Abushawish linked the growth of the Fujairah Martial Arts Club to a clear progression: “we started with Taekwondo,” studied the sport in depth, and then built a management structure that later expanded into other sports and internationally oriented events.

The team’s key: stability, swift resolution, and continuous development

When asked what drives a strong working team, Abushawish summarized it in three core ideas: organizational stability, immediate problem-solving capacity, and an internal culture of continuous development. He explained that sustaining events over time strengthened the human group, while constant improvement raised the overall production standard.

Along the same lines, he noted that the organization recently received recognition after presenting five innovation ideas connected to sport—part of an approach which, he stressed, aims to keep evolving “for the present and for the future.”

Venue and operations

Abushawish told MASTKD that official activities are being coordinated from Al Bahar Hotel, while competition will take place at Zayed Sports Complex, within a calendar that once again places the emirate at the center of the regional Taekwondo movement.
