Chungju, South Korea – The World Sport Committee (President Seo Hyun-suk), in collaboration with the Chungju City Taekwondo Association (Chairman Lee Chung-hee) and the Chungbuk Sport Committee (President Chung Yong-guk), proudly announced the successful conclusion of the 1st Chungju Apple Cup National Taekwondo Championships. The event, held at Chungju Hoam Gymnasium under the bright autumn sunlight, was generously sponsored by Chungju City, Chungju City Council, and the Chungju City Sports Council.

A National Celebration of Taekwondo Excellence

The championship attracted more than 1,500 athletes nationwide, competing across Kyorugi, Poomsae, Breaking, and Taekwondo gymnastics divisions. With over 500 enthusiastic parents and supporters filling the stands, the atmosphere was charged with energy and passion throughout the day.

As the first Taekwondo competition in the nation to creatively incorporate Chungju’s renowned apples and regional identity into its branding, the event was widely praised for its innovation, flawless organization, and vibrant presentation, setting a new benchmark for sports marketing linked to local culture.

Distinguished Opening Ceremony

The opening ceremony commenced at 11 a.m. with a spirited declaration by Chung Yong-guk, Chairman of the Executive Committee. The event was graced by a distinguished lineup of leaders from Taekwondo, sports, and civic institutions, including:

  • Lee Chung-hee, Chairman, Chungju City Taekwondo Association
  • Jeon Byung-chul, Executive Director, Chungbuk Taekwondo Association
  • Lee Sang-gil, Chairman, Jeungpyeong-gun Taekwondo Association
  • Lee Yang-hee, President, Eumseong-gun Taekwondo Association
  • Noh Young-soon, President, Chungju City Disabled Taekwondo Association
  • Shin Jae-hyun, Director, Korea Gas Corporation Taekwondo Team
  • Kim Dong-wook, Executive Director, Korea Business Taekwondo Federation
  • Park Joo-sik, President, Keimyung University Taekwondo Department
  • Kim Seok-hyun, Chairman, World Practical Taekwondo Committee

International and national dignitaries also lent their presence, including Chungju Mayor Cho Gil-hyung, National Assemblyman Lee Jong-bae, and Chungju City Council Chairman Kim Nak-woo, as well as representatives from provincial councils.
Importantly, Rick W. Shin, President of the Professional Taekwondo Federation (PTF) and Kombat Taekwondo Global, was officially invited to attend. During his visit, President Shin also evaluated the organization and facilities in Chungju, exploring the possibility of hosting future PTF international events in the city.

Lee Chung-hee, Chairman of the Chungju City Taekwondo Association, expressed his pride:
“I am deeply honored to host the inaugural Chungju Apple Cup Taekwondo Championships in our historic city. With the dedication of athletes, leaders, and organizers, this event will grow into a central axis for Taekwondo and sports development in Korea.”

National Assemblyman Lee Jong-bae emphasized Taekwondo’s cultural significance:
“Taekwondo is our national pride and a gift Korea has shared with the world. I hope today’s athletes will continue to shine globally as ambassadors of our heritage.”

Chungju City Council Chairman Kim Nak-woo pledged continued support:
“The Council will ensure this championship grows even stronger next year.”

Seo Hyun-suk, President of the Organizing Committee, reflected on the achievement:
“Though this was a founding competition with a short preparation period, we succeeded thanks to the united efforts of all involved. Our vision is to expand into an international competition next year, further boosting the local economy and creating a legacy for Chungju.”
