The German Open 2025 closed with resounding success: more than 1,140 athletes from 32 countries, 12 competition areas, and a historic record of effectiveness in the scoring system.

The event also became the largest testing ground for the new rules of World Taekwondo (WT), designed to make the sport more agile, dynamic, and attractive in the lead-up to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

At the heart of this evolution was the Daedo GEN3 PSS (Protector Scoring System), the electronic system that made every point possible.

Precision and speed for a more dynamic Taekwondo

The most significant rule change —one point for a punch validated by a sensor and confirmed by a referee, two points for a body kick, and three points for a head kick, with bonus points eliminated— requires maximum reliability in impact detection.

The GEN3 PSS demonstrated record effectiveness, ensuring that every point was registered in real time, even in the most intense matches.

Sam Park, Director of Daedo, highlighted the system’s reliability, noting:

“On Sunday alone, during the Senior competition of The German Open 2025, the punch sensor recorded 230 confirmed points.”

He also emphasized that, even though the new rules do not allow coaches to request video replay for head-gear actions,

“coaches did not raise major objections regarding the system’s performance, which created a general atmosphere of satisfaction among athletes and coaches.”

In addition, despite the issues seen at the GP Challenge in Charlotte, the data is telling: the ratio of accepted video replays per match with Daedo stood at just 0.28, compared to 0.90 recorded in Muju with another system. These figures confirm that Daedo headgear has historically delivered greater reliability than other brands.

Technology in the service of new rules

The test also included the reduction of referees from five to three inside the competition area, and the restriction of video replay solely to admonishment.

Philippe Bouedo, WT Technical Director, recalled what happened during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games (July 26 – August 11):

“The Olympic Broadcast Service, the host broadcaster of the Olympic Games, appreciates Taekwondo very much, but in Paris they told us: ‘It stops too much, too much, too much.’ There were matches with up to nine video replays to the head, all of them accepted.”

This new framework increases the reliance on technology: every point depends on sensors. The GEN3 PSS responded with accuracy, strengthening the trust of coaches, referees, and officials in its ability to support the sport’s regulatory future.

WT President Dr. Chungwon Choue, in his final assessment of the tournament, commented:

“It seems fine, the competition was very fast and also without video replay.”

More spectacular and fair

From its headquarters in Barcelona, Daedo has spent more than 40 years developing Taekwondo equipment and leading innovation in electronic scoring technology.

The GEN3 PSS was officially certified by World Taekwondo (WT) in February 2025, after a process of development, adjustments, and numerous WT LAB testing.

The German Open 2025  confirmed that the GEN3 PSS is not only a scoring system, but also a strategic tool to ensure Taekwondo maintains its place in the Olympic program and continues to connect with new global audiences.

“Our goal is for athletes, coaches, and fans to experience more spectacular and fair matches. GEN3 PSS is the foundation of that future,” stressed Chuen W. Park, CEO of Daedo.
