About the event and its importance

What does it mean for Canada to host one of only three G2 events in the Pan American region?

Taekwondo Canada is very honored to be one of only three G2 events within the PATU region. With this in mind, we are striving to make the 2025 Canada Open the best event possible, welcoming all athletes and coaches to Canada and specifically Montreal this year. The Canada Open has always been an extremely well attended event and we do everything we can to ensure that World Taekwondo and PATU understand that awarding us with the G2 ranking each year also guarantees a great event for all of those who attend from around the world.

What impact do you expect this Canadian Open to have on the development of Taekwondo in the country and the region?

Taekwondo Canada’s goal each year is to present one of the top events not only in the Pan American region but in the world. Our goal with this is not only to welcome the best athletes in the world to Canada but provide an avenue for all of our Canadian athletes with the opportunity to compete against the best on home soil. By competing against the best, we are ensuring that our up-and-coming athletes also get the best learning experience possible which will assist them in developing and bringing their skill sets to the next level and growing the sport of taekwondo in Canada.

Participation and wild cards

With a number of participants already confirmed, how do you evaluate the response of national and international athletes for this event?

We have had a tremendous response to our event, and I believe it is because of the quality tournament that Taekwondo Canada runs each year. We continue to receive registrations from athletes and coaches both nationally and internationally, ensuring that the growth of the sport is being felt in Canada and for our athletes internationally.

The wild cards for the Pan American events have already been defined by the Pan American Taekwondo Union, what impact do you think they will have on the motivation and performance of the athletes competing in this tournament?

The addition of wild cards for the 2025 Canada Open by PATU are great for our event and our sport. I believe that there is significant importance and interest in the wild cards for athletes both in Canada and within the Pan American region. I think that all athletes are greatly motivated to win and receive a wild card for the future event.

Preparations

What measures have been taken to ensure that the facilities and organization meet the standards of a G2 event?

Taekwondo Canada has ensured that the G2 event which is the 2025 Canada Open is one of the best run events, not only in the Pan American region, but in the world as well. The partners we align ourselves with including Captain Sports and UPTkd as well as Simply Compete to name but a few, ensure that the event is world-class. We have also been very appreciative of World Taekwondo and PATU who have provided great reviews of our Canada Open each and every year. The facilities that we use are always the best possible venues in the top cities within Canada where the athletes and coaches have the ability to enjoy the host city and the country, not only the event each year.

Challenges and vision for the future

How do you visualize the evolution of the Canadian Open in future editions of the G2 circuit?

I believe that the Canada Open, which is run by Taekwondo Canada each year, has become a must-stop on the world stage for athletes and coaches who are striving to meet the best not only from Canada but throughout the world. We believe that the efforts made by our organization to run a top-flight event have been noticed by those around the world and the diverse amount of registrations that we have received have proven that. We know that we will continue to strive to produce a better event each and every year, ensuring that all who visit Canada have the best experience both in and out of the ring.

Final message

What message would you like to share with the athletes, coaches and fans who will attend or follow this event?

On behalf of myself and my team at Taekwondo Canada, we look forward to welcoming all of the athletes, coaches and fans from around the world to Canada February 7th to 9th for what is going to be a premiere stop on the taekwondo circuit not only in the Pan American region but in the world. We know that all involved will be part of a world-class event which will provide great memories for all in years to come. We look forward to welcoming you to Montreal for the 2025 Canada Open.
