Four Nations Win the Final Taekwondo Gold Medals at Aichi-Nagoya 2026

Jordan, Thailand, South Korea and Iran shared the titles on the third and final day. Fadia Khirfan, Banlung Tubtimdang, Song Da-bin and Arian Salimi brought the Kyorugi competition to a close in Toyohashi.

Taekwondo concluded at the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026 on Saturday, October 3, with four more Kyorugi titles. Athletes from four different nations claimed gold in the women’s −57kg and +67kg and men’s −68kg and +80kg divisions.

Following South Korea’s sweep of the opening Poomsae events and a second day highlighted by the Philippines’ historic Virtual Taekwondo victory, Toyohashi Gymnasium hosted the bouts that decided the final champions.

Khirfan and Tubtimdang Take Gold for Jordan and Thailand

In the women’s −57kg division, Fadia Khirfan secured gold for Jordan with a 2–1 victory in rounds over China’s Zhang Chuling.

Khirfan had defeated Thailand’s Natkamon Wassana in the semifinals. Wassana received bronze alongside Chinese Taipei’s Lin Wei-chun, who lost to Zhang in the other semifinal.

Thailand topped the men’s −68kg podium through Banlung Tubtimdang, who defeated Iran’s Mahdi Hajimousaei Nafouti 2–0, winning the rounds 5–4 and 3–2. South Korea’s Mun Jin-ho and Jordan’s Zaid Kareem earned bronze medals.

Song Delivers South Korea’s Kyorugi Gold

Song Da-bin won the women’s +67kg title after a three-round final against China’s Mu Wenzhe.

The South Korean took the opening round 4–2, lost the second 4–10 and secured the deciding round 8–5 to complete a 2–1 victory.

It was South Korea’s first Kyorugi gold at these Games, adding to the two Poomsae titles won on the opening day.

Iran’s Fatemeh Ahmadi and Uzbekistan’s Svetlana Saidova completed the podium with bronze medals after losing their semifinals to Song and Mu, respectively.

Salimi Adds Iran’s Second Title

In the men’s +80kg division, Paris 2024 Olympic champion Arian Salimi claimed gold with a commanding 2–0 victory over Uzbekistan’s Marat Mavlonov, taking the rounds 26–4 and 20–8.

His title followed Saghar Moradi Sheikhlari’s victory in the women’s −67kg division on Friday. Iran finished its Taekwondo campaign with two gold medals, one silver and one bronze.

Jordan’s Mohammad Aladarbi and South Korea’s Kang Sang-hyun received the +80kg bronze medals after semifinal defeats against Salimi and Mavlonov.

Seven Nations Share the Kyorugi Titles

The eight Kyorugi gold medals were distributed among seven nations. Iran won two, while China, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Jordan, Thailand and South Korea each claimed one.

Across its three competition days, Taekwondo awarded 11 titles: two in Poomsae, eight in Kyorugi and one in Virtual Taekwondo.

Aichi-Nagoya 2026 combined forms, sparring and the official Asian Games debut of Virtual Taekwondo, with the Philippines’ Jeus Gabriel Derick Yape becoming the discipline’s first champion at the event.
