Philippines Looks to the Next 50 Years with a National Taekwondo Center
After five decades of growth, Philippine Taekwondo is preparing for a new era with a dedicated national facility in Manila designed to strengthen athlete development and host major international events.
The Philippine Taekwondo Association (PTA) marked its 50th anniversary with a project that could shape the sport’s future in the country: the construction of a National Taekwondo Center at the historic Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila.
The venue will replace the former Philippine Sports Commission Bowling Center and is expected to provide more than 1,000 square meters of dedicated space for training, competition and national-team activities.
A Home for Philippine Taekwondo
The planned center will be able to accommodate approximately 100 athletes at the same time, feature four international-standard competition areas and offer seating for around 850 to 900 spectators.
Beyond daily training, the facility is expected to host national championships, development programs, training camps and international events.
The project is supported by the Philippine Sports Commission and the Philippine Taekwondo Association, which will also provide a significant financial contribution. Completion is projected for December 2026 or early 2027.
Five Decades of National Development
The announcement comes as the PTA celebrates 50 years of activity. According to figures presented by the organization, Taekwondo has expanded to all 19 regions of the Philippines, with more than one million practitioners and over 100 competitions held annually across national, regional and local levels.
The Philippine Senate also unanimously adopted Resolution No. 62, recognizing the association’s anniversary and its contribution to the country’s sporting development.
The construction of a permanent national center represents more than an infrastructure project. It is a strategic investment intended to improve athlete preparation, strengthen grassroots programs and position the Philippines as a potential host for major international Taekwondo competitions.
After building its nationwide structure over the past five decades, Philippine Taekwondo is now laying the foundation for the next 50 years.
