SEOUL, Korea – World Taekwondo has reinforced its institutional agenda by confirming it has achieved carbon neutral status for the year 2024, alongside the launch of a new Online Sustainability Course aimed at the global Taekwondo community.
The carbon neutral certification was independently verified by One Carbon World in accordance with internationally recognised standards, confirming that World Taekwondo has measured, reduced, and offset its organisational carbon footprint. For the reporting period, WT recorded total emissions of 562.92 tonnes of CO₂e, representing a 23% reduction compared to 2022.

The assessment identified that more than 70% of emissions were linked to air travel, followed by hotel stays and operational services, underlining the structural challenge faced by international federations operating within a global competition calendar.
To address its remaining emissions, WT supported an international project focused on reducing hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) gases, contributing to climate impact mitigation through certified mechanisms.
In parallel, World Taekwondo officially launched its new Online Sustainability Course during Mental Health Awareness Week, expanding the scope of its sustainability strategy to include health and well-being, inclusion, governance, and responsible sport management.
The course is designed for athletes, coaches, organisers, Member National Associations, and the wider public, providing practical tools to better understand and implement sustainability principles across the sport.

World Taekwondo President Dr. Chungwon Choue emphasised that education plays a fundamental role in driving awareness and action, noting that sustainability extends beyond policy and requires active engagement across the entire Taekwondo community.
Both developments form part of World Taekwondo’s long-term Sustainability Strategy, integrating environmental, social, and governance dimensions as key pillars in its institutional positioning within the global sport landscape.
