Woosuk University’s Department of Taekwondo signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the University of Utah this month, formalizing a bilateral exchange to deepen academic collaboration and student mobility between the two institutions.
The agreement was completed after University of Utah President Taylor Randall signed the MOU on April 7 and Woosuk University President Park No‑jun signed on April 13. Under the pact, the universities will pursue faculty and researcher exchanges, joint research projects, and student exchange programs. The University of Utah plans to offer a taekwondo course next semester and explore exchange professor and student programs with Woosuk’s Taekwondo Department.
The partnership builds on earlier outreach by Woosuk: in September 2025, Prof. Park Ji‑won, demonstration team director Seong Si‑hoon and Woosuk students visited the University of Utah to present a taekwondo demonstration and hold preliminary talks. The collaboration was further developed during a videoconference in November 2025 between senior staff at both universities.

Founded January 10, 1979 and overseen by the Woosuk Academy chaired by Seo Chang‑hun, Woosuk University is home to a globally recognized Department of Taekwondo. The department is noted for high‑performance taekwondo teams that have produced numerous national and international medalists. It offers undergraduate and graduate programs and community outreach initiatives that blend traditional practice with modern sports science.
“Our Department is committed to developing world‑class athletes, coaches and researchers who will advance taekwondo globally and represent Woosuk University with pride,” said Prof. Park Eun‑seok, head of the Department of Taekwondo.
Park No‑jun, President of Woosuk University: “We hope this agreement, using taekwondo as a bridge, will expand both academic and cultural exchange. We will work to revitalize international exchange centered on the Department of Taekwondo.”
Seo Chang‑hun, Chairman of the Woosuk Academy, added, “Woosuk University is proud to support the Department of Taekwondo’s pursuit of excellence. This partnership and investment in talent reflect our long‑term commitment to education, cultural exchange and athletic leadership on the world stage.”
