Vibrant Opening Ceremony Brings Energy to Tashkent 2026 World Taekwondo Junior Championships
TASHKENT, Uzbekistan – The Tashkent 2026 World Taekwondo Junior Championships began with an incredible Opening Ceremony, which energised and inspired all in attendance for the six days of competition.

World Taekwondo President Dr. Chungwon Choue was joined in attendance by Uzbekistan’s Minister of Sport Mr. Adkham Ikramov, First Vice President of the Uzbekistan National Olympic Committee (NOC) Mr. Otabek Umarov, and First Deputy Chairperson of the Uzbekistan National Paralympic Committee Ms. Shakhnoza Miziyoyeva.

IOC Member and United World Wrestling President Nenad Lalovic, IOC Member and World Taekwondo Council member Dagmawit Girmay Berhane and President of Kukkiwon Ung-suk Yun also attended, along with members of the World Taekwondo Council.
The Opening Ceremony began with a celebration of Uzbek history and culture, followed by the raising of the World Taekwondo flag and the Parade of Nations.
President Choue welcomed all participants to the World Taekwondo Junior Championships, including the more than 990 athletes who have registered – a record for the event.

“This is the 30th anniversary of the World Taekwondo Junior Championships, and I am very happy that it is here in Tashkent. The World Taekwondo Junior Championships are the first international level championships to be held in the magnificent Olympic City,” he said.
“Over the years, Uzbekistan has developed Olympic and Paralympic champions, and has hosted high-quality international events. I also value the close cooperation with the Government and sporting authorities.
“Uzbekistan is an experienced and reliable partner of World Taekwondo. All of these achievements are possible because of the great leadership and vision of President Mirziyoyev.
“I wish to thank Uzbekistan Taekwondo Association. President Tashmatov did a wonderful job in organising these World Taekwondo Junior Championships.”

First Vice President of the Uzbekistan NOC Mr. Otabek Umarov then declared the Tashkent 2026 World Taekwondo Junior Championships open.
There was a passionate rendition of the national anthem of Uzbekistan, and representatives of the athletes, coaches and referees took oaths for the competition.
The Opening Ceremony concluded with a sensational performance from the World Taekwondo Performance Team, which was warmly received by the crowd.
The Tashkent 2026 World Taekwondo Junior Championships will run until April 17.
