Paralympic champion Lisa Kjær Jensen appointed to World Taekwondo Council in historic first

Paralympic champion Lisa Kjær Jensen has become the first Para Taekwondo athlete ever appointed to the World Taekwondo Council, marking another significant step in the federation’s continued commitment to broader representation and inclusion.

Jensen, whose term will run until the Lima 2028 World Taekwondo Junior Championships, brings extensive value to the Council through a profile that combines elite sporting success, high performance expertise, and legal experience.

She won Para Taekwondo gold at the sport’s Paralympic debut at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games and later secured bronze at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. Across her career, Jensen also captured four world titles and five European championships. In recognition of those achievements, she was honoured as the female athlete of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games during World Taekwondo’s Golden Jubilee Gala Dinner.

Beyond competition, Jensen has worked as a high performance sports consultant for Parasport Denmark, contributing strategic guidance to the development of elite and talent environments in para sport. She also serves as Deputy Chef de Mission for the Paralympic Games at LA28 and as Vice Chair of the Danish Athletes’ Committee (DIF).

Her professional background includes more than 15 years of legal experience within Denmark’s prosecution service and police, with specialization in governance, regulatory frameworks, compliance, and public administration.

Chungwon Choue welcomed the appointment, highlighting Jensen’s pioneering athlete legacy while emphasizing the added value of her experience in athlete development and governance for the future work of the Council.
