World Taekwondo (WT) officially designated Taekwondowon as the first Virtual Taekwondo Central Training Center, describing the move as a milestone in Taekwondo’s digital evolution and a strategic step to accelerate the development and global expansion of Virtual Taekwondo.
The designation was formalized through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between WT and the Taekwondo Promotion Foundation (TPF). The signing ceremony took place at the World Taekwondo Headquarters in Seoul, attended by WT President Dr. Chungwon Choue, WT Vice President Jinbang Yang, WT Secretary General Jeongkang Seo, TPF President Jungheon Kim, and other key representatives from both organizations.

According to the official release, the strategic partnership aimed to actively promote Virtual Taekwondo, which integrates Virtual Reality (VR) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies, with the ambition of positioning it within the esports ecosystem. WT said the initiative provided a foundation to move toward having Virtual Taekwondo included as an official discipline in the Olympic Esports Games, while supporting WT’s broader vision of transforming Taekwondo into a digitally integrated global sport.
WT stated that the new Virtual Taekwondo Central Training Center became the first esports training center dedicated specifically to Taekwondo. Backed by Taekwondowon’s training infrastructure and expertise, the center featured specialized programs including certification courses for Virtual Taekwondo competition operators, development pathways for Technical Officials, the launch of an Amateur Virtual Taekwondo League, and structured education and training systems for global participants.
In parallel, WT added that, through its international network, both organizations would work together to expand Virtual Taekwondo worldwide and establish a sustainable institutional and regulatory framework to support its long-term growth.
WT President Dr. Chungwon Choue said: “This agreement represented a key turning point in preparing Taekwondo for the future. With the establishment of the Virtual Taekwondo Central Training Center at Taekwondowon this year, Taekwondowon emerged as a global hub of digital innovation in Taekwondo.”
WT also noted that, alongside the MoU signing, a Host City Contract signing ceremony was held for the World Para Taekwondo Championships 2026, scheduled for 20–22 November at Taekwondowon (Muju).
