Chungwon Choue on “Reborn Together,” AI in scoring, and adjustments toward Los Angeles 2028

 In an exclusive interview with MASTKD, Dr. Chungwon Choue delivered a central message of unity—“Reborn Together”—and said the organization is focusing its agenda on modernizing key areas of the sport, particularly systems related to refereeing and scoring, while continuing governance reforms and regulatory adjustments with an eye on Los Angeles 2028.

What he said—and why it matters

Unity as the cornerstone. Choue reiterated the “Reborn Together” message and linked it to short- and mid-term planning over the “next three years,” framing this period as a stage to strengthen internal cohesion and strategic direction.

Technology and scoring: focus on AI. The President stated that the “refereeing and scoring” system, requires a substantial upgrade, identifying this as a key topic: integrating AI tools to reinforce processes and reduce gray areas.

Governance and transparency. Choue said governance and transparency within World Taekwondo are improving significantly, and connected that progress to closer alignment and cooperation with the Continental Unions.

Rules for a more dynamic Taekwondo. In line with the post-Olympic cycle approach, he explained that the leadership is pushing new Competition Rules and regulations with a clear objective: to make Taekwondo “more dynamic” and “more interesting,” to fulfill audience and broadcasting expectations.

Toward 2028: regulatory alignment and institutional coordination

Within that framework, Choue emphasized that WT is working on following the International Olympic Committee pathway, adapting statutes and rules, describing the process as a package of changes designed to bring order, simplify structures, and improve overall system efficiency.
