In this schedule, one part stands out as a key point: presentations by the Continental Unions, with their presidents or representatives presenting their projects and direction to the Council.
The document—entitled “Extraordinary Council Meeting and Workshop Schedule”—confirms that the Extraordinary Council Meeting will be held on Saturday, January 31 (2:00–5:00 p.m.) and will include presentations by the presidents of the Continental Unions (CUs). This session will serve as a comparative showcase: in the same room, each continental union will have to present its priorities, structure, ambitions, and narrative, revealing the direction each union is taking and how aligned it is with the new cycle.
The most political moment: continental projects before the Council
This will not be a ceremonial session. Continental presentations tend to serve as a measure of leadership: which unions arrive with a solid plan, which ones aim for competitive expansion, which ones prioritize governance and development, and which discourses seek to establish themselves in the global conversation. The roadmap also anticipates that on Sunday, February 1, WT will open a special orientation session for the Executive Council (10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.) with structural topics: roles and responsibilities, the 2026 budget, major events of the year, and the functioning of the secretariat. This will be followed by a session of presentations by vice presidents, group work, and a final round of conclusions, questions, and an open microphone for each Council member, a format that often reveals internal alignments, priorities, and nuances.
Gala Awards 2025: awards and diplomacy on the same night
The document also includes a highly symbolic and relational item: the WT Gala Awards 2025, scheduled for Monday, February 2 (8:00 p.m.) with formal dress code. The ceremony will reward the world’s best in 2025, but it will also serve as a stage for sports diplomacy: in these spaces, gestures, closeness, and signals are read that often anticipate the political climate of the year.
