World Taekwondo kicked off a referee selection camp in Sogamoso ahead of LA 2028
Sogamoso, Colombia — World Taekwondo (WT) held a new stage of the WT Referee Training Camp for the Pan-Am region at the International High Performance Center (CIART), focused on training, evaluating, and selecting international referees for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, according to information provided to MASTKD by the Colombian Taekwondo Federation and its president, Cito René Forero.
Sogamoso, Colombia — World Taekwondo (WT) held a new stage of the WT Referee Training Camp for the Pan-Am region at the International High Performance Center (CIART), focused on training, evaluating, and selecting international referees for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, according to information provided to MASTKD by the Colombian Taekwondo Federation and its president, Cito René Forero.
According to the report shared by the Colombian authorities, the WT technical delegation arrived in Colombia after previous activities in Morocco and Spain, with a delegation composed of:
- Philippe Bouedo, Chair WT Technical Commission
- Mohamed Shaaban, Chair WT Games Committee
- Zhu Linfang, Chair WT Referee Committee
- Jeongwon Park, WT SEM Assistant Manager
- Taehun Kim, WT SEM Coordinator
Institutional welcome at CIART
The Colombian Taekwondo Federation reported that Cito René Forero led the official welcome at CIART, accompanied by athlete Andrea Ramírez, double world medalist, in a gesture that sought to highlight the continental importance of the camp and local hospitality.
In this context, Forero stated that WT is promoting this selective camp for international referees with Olympic aspirations, and highlighted the presence of referees from more than 20 countries during the week of work.
What is evaluated at the camp
The official schedule for the “LA 2028 WT Standing IR Selection & Training Camp THREE” detailed a program of activities between January 19 and 23, with technical sessions and progressive exams.
Among the main points, the plan included:
- Opening ceremony and explanation of the selection process.
- Training in competition rules (modules I and II) and scoring training.
- Evaluation of match management and hand signals and scoring test.
- Medical check-up, English communication test, physical test, and written rules exam, with a closing ceremony on the same day.
The Colombian Taekwondo Federation considered that the camp consolidates Sogamoso and CIART as a regional platform for high-level referee training, linking it to a development strategy in coordination with World Taekwondo and the continental ecosystem.
