Seoungmin Rim takes lead of Poomsae in the PanAm region
Master and coach Seoung Min Rim has been appointed chairman of the Poomsae Committee of the Pan American Taekwondo Union (PATU). Master and coach Seoung Min Rim has been appointed chairman of the Poomsae Committee of the Pan American Taekwondo Union (PATU). The decision places him at the center of a discipline that, over the last decade, has evolved from being a “complement” to becoming a strategic pillar of modern Taekwondo: training, technical identity, and international projection.

Rim is internationally recognized for a career dedicated to Taekwondo, with an unusual profile: grassroots instructor, high-performance coach, and educator specializing in sport Poomsae. His professional biography lists him as an 8th Dan Kukkiwon and internationally experienced coach, as well as a promoter of workshops and camps in different countries.
In Canada, his name became directly associated with the competitive growth of Poomsae. Taekwondo Canada appointed him Head Coach of the national Poomsae team and highlighted his experience and international results, including the development of medal-winning athletes for the country.

Mexico and the regional momentum of Poomsae
On the continent, Rim was actively involved in training and development initiatives linked to PATU. One example was the Freestyle Poomsae Workshop in Querétaro (Mexico), announced by PATU itself as a benchmark seminar for coaches, referees, and athletes, led by Rim in his role within the Pan American technical structure
This line of work connected him with training and preparation processes in different parts of the region, especially in the Freestyle modality, where technical and methodological specialization became decisive for competing at the highest level.

Rim to MASTKD: standards, education, and a sustainable path
In his statement to MASTKD, Rim set out a clear roadmap: to be an inclusive voice for athletes, coaches, officials, and federations, with a focus on transparent governance, education programs, fair and consistent criteria, and long-term development pathways that sustain excellence “at all levels.”
At the same time, the institutional environment itself had already been positioning him as part of PATU’s technical team in Poomsae (integrating committees from the previous cycle), a background that helped explain why his appointment did not appear as an isolated leap, but rather as a continuation of a journey within the continental structure.

An appointment with political and sporting implications
In Poomsae, technical positions are not decorative: they define criteria, organize training schedules, set standards, and align MNAs. Rim’s appointment also came at a time when Poomsae sought to consolidate its continental growth with clear rules and educational expansion, a combination that PATU had already been promoting with official seminars and development actions.
