Charlotte, NC had announced the start of an unprecedented worldwide search to recruit a full-time high-performance sparring coach, a key addition to one of the fastest-rising Olympic programs ahead of Los Angeles 2028 and Brisbane 2032.
USA Taekwondo, ranked by World Taekwondo as the No. 1 Member National Association in both 2024 and 2025, formally opened an international recruitment process aimed at coaches with proven success at the highest level of WT competition. The search is open globally and reflects the organization’s long-term ambition to sustain competitive excellence.
A world-class profile for a program in expansion
The federation stated that it is seeking a candidate with an impeccable international solid experience, a documented track record at elite events, and a reputation grounded in professionalism and integrity.
The role requires the ability to thrive in a collaborative, athlete-centered environment supported by integrated sport science, professionals in physical training, nutrition, and sport psychology.
According to USA Taekwondo, the goal is to bring in a coach capable of offering modern tactical perspectives and contributing to the continued evolution of Team USA’s high-performance model.
A strategic addition to the coaching staff led by Paul Green
The new hire will join an elite team headed by Coaching Director Paul Green, working alongside Gareth Brown and Stephen Lambdin, both U.S. Olympic Team Coaches, in addition to Cadet, Junior and Para National Team staff. The new addition will strengthen the coaching staff, which is currently undergoing expansion.
Selection process led by CEO Steve McNally
USA Taekwondo CEO Steve McNally will make the final hiring decision with advisory input from Green, Brown, Lambdin and Carol Lewis, Olympian and Chair of the USA Taekwondo Board of Directors.
This group will evaluate both the technical expertise and the ethical alignment of the applicants within the federation’s high-performance culture.
McNally noted that the United States has entered “a pivotal era,” emphasizing that the organization is recruiting “the strongest people globally, in both expertise and character,” to guide athletes toward sustained excellence through the next decade.
Applications open until January 15, 2026
Inquiries and expressions of interest should be sent directly to the CEO Steve McNally. Interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis, and the appointment is expected during the first quarter of 2026.
