Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi: the leader who positioned Fujairah as a global Taekwondo centre
Fujairah will once again be epicenter of Taekwondo in February 2026, when World Taekwondo holds an Extraordinary Council Meeting there, along with the Fujairah Open G2, the Arab Cup, the Sharjah Arab Women’s Tournament, and the WT Gala Awards 2025, that will bring together leaders and athletes from around the world.
At the heart of this international exposure is His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, whose leadership has transformed the emirate into a global sporting reference point.
A historic calendar for Fujairah
The WT’s decision to hold its Extraordinary Council Meeting on February 1, 2026, in Fujairah was confirmed following the meeting in Wuxi. The event will take place alongside the 13th Fujairah Open, which will be held from February 1 to 5 at Sheikh Zayed Sport City and the Fujairah Martial Arts Club, and will include Senior, Junior, Cadet, and Children’s competitions.
In addition, there will be the 2026 Arab Cup, a women’s tournament in Sharjah, and the annual WT awards gala, which will bring together government officials, continental presidents, and delegations from all continents.

A strategic ally of World Taekwondo
The relationship between Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi and WT was built on three pillars: humanitarian commitment, institutional support, and long-term vision.
In 2017, the Crown Prince made a donation of $100,000 to the Taekwondo Humanitarian Foundation, a gesture that Dr. Chungwon Choue publicly highlighted for its impact on refugee children.
This humanitarian commitment was recognized in 2024, when WT awarded him the “Humanitarian Personality of the Year 2023” award during an official reception at Al Rumailah Palace.
In addition to his institutional support, His Highness is an 8th dan black belt and president of the Fujairah Martial Arts Club, promoting the emirate’s position as an international hub under the Fujairah Vision 2030 strategy.

Fujairah 2025: an unprecedented Cadet World Championship
The World Taekwondo Cadet Championships Fujairah 2025 set a historic record with 811 athletes from 93 countries, consolidating the emirate as a preferred host for youth development.
During the event, Dr. Choue and members of the Executive Council were received by the Crown Prince, who reaffirmed that sport is a key factor in promoting Fujairah as an international platform for major events.
2026: Council, Open G2, and Gala Awards under one leadership
The Fujairah Open 2026 will have a defined structure that includes new competition rules, official WT controls, electronic draw, random weigh-ins, and comprehensive logistics for teams from all continents.
The simultaneous presence of the Executive Council, the Arab Cup, the WT Gala Awards, and the gala dinner makes the emirate a strategic meeting point for sports diplomacy.
The choice of Fujairah confirms WT’s confidence in a stable, modern partner that is aligned with its global vision.

A model of leadership for world sport
Beyond Taekwondo, the Crown Prince has promoted cultural, educational, and environmental projects that strengthen Fujairah’s international identity.
However, it is in Taekwondo where his contribution becomes most visible: support for humanitarian initiatives, consolidation of an annual calendar of international events, backing for the national federation, and opening up the emirate to the top leadership of WT.
In a context where global sport demands strong, sensitive, and strategic leadership, Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi has established himself as one of the most influential figures in contemporary Taekwondo.
In February 2026, when WT leaders and athletes from around the world gather at the gala in Fujairah, the stage will also be a recognition of a vision that understood that Taekwondo can transform communities, promote nations, and unite cultures.
