The cultural production “Great Taekwondo”, officially led by the Taekwondo Promotion Foundation (TPF), closed a landmark season in the Republic of Korea after completing 99 performances throughout 2025 and attracting more than 70,000 spectators. The project has become one of the most successful institutional initiatives promoting taekwondo as an artistic and cultural expression.

The TPF — a foundation authorized by the Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism — developed the show within the national program “Support for the Promotion of Taekwondo Core Content.” This framework aims to elevate taekwondo as a contemporary cultural asset and strengthen its role as a driver of tourism. Through a blend of technical demonstration, acrobatics, theatrical elements, and traditional Korean music, Great Taekwondo positioned itself as a major cultural attraction with broad public appeal.

Performances were staged at prominent venues including Cheong Wa Dae (the former Presidential Residence), traditional heritage villages, cultural centers, and national tourism events. The enthusiastic response from both local audiences and international visitors underscored the show’s growing cultural impact.

The success of the project prompted the Incheon International Airport Corporation to select a permanent performance team, ensuring that Great Taekwondo will remain part of the airport’s cultural experience through June 2026. This decision reflects the expanding role of taekwondo within the global reach of the Korean Wave (Hallyu), positioning it as a cultural symbol alongside music, cinema, and the performing arts.

The continued development of Great Taekwondo demonstrates Korea’s strategic effort to project taekwondo beyond sport — presenting it as an artistic discipline, a cultural resource, and a central element of the country’s modern identity. With solid institutional support and an ever-growing audience, the project stands as a reference model for the global promotion of taekwondo as contemporary cultural content.
