During the final days of the World Taekwondo Championships in Wuxi, World Taekwondo (WT) President Dr. Chungwon Choue held an informal meeting with representatives from several Pan-American federations.

The friendly and productive meeting focused on analyzing financial support programs and technical development in the region, which will host the next Olympic Games.

According to WT Secretary General Jeongkang Seo, in communication with MASTKD, the meeting focused on strengthening direct cooperation with countries benefiting from World Taekwondo support programs.

“This meeting was mainly with the MNAs that WT financially supported for their participation in the World Taekwondo Championships—except for Brazil and Chile—in order to evaluate how we can continue to help those federations,” Seo said.

The South Korean leader added that the joint objective with the Pan American Taekwondo Union (PATU) is to increase the number of Level I Members within the continent.

“Together with PATU, I aim to increase the number of Level I federations in the Pan American region,” he said.

Although the meeting was not on the official agenda of the World Taekwondo Championships, the initiative was well received by the leaders present, who appreciated the openness to dialogue and the WT’s interest in strengthening developing national structures.

The meeting strengthens the World Taekwondo focus on Pan-Am, considered a strategic region both for its sporting potential and its capacity to organize major international events.
