Following the result, Sogand and Sogel Shiri staged a heated protest by throwing advertising panels onto the competition area and sitting on the mat in defiance, refusing to leave. The incident brought the event to a halt and required intervention from security personnel inside the venue.
Disciplinary Action and Federation Review
Hours later, the league’s judicial committee announced a two-year suspension for both Shiri sisters, banning them from all official events. However, the Iran Taekwondo Federation clarified that the decision is provisional and must undergo review by the national disciplinary committee before becoming final.
In its statement, the federation emphasized the importance of maintaining “respect, discipline, and sports culture” in all competitions, warning that similar incidents could lead to even harsher sanctions in the future.
