Press Conference Launches Final Countdown to Wuxi 2025 World Taekwondo Championships

World Taekwondo and local organizers held a press conference in Wuxi, China, three days before the start of the 2025 World Taekwondo Championships — an event that will feature a record number of participants.

World Taekwondo and local organizers held a press conference in Wuxi, China, three days before the start of the 2025 World Taekwondo Championships — an event that will feature a record number of participants.

The press conference took place at the World Hotel Grand Juna, attracting significant attention from national media as China prepares to host the World Championships for the first time in 18 years, since the Beijing 2007 edition.

Speakers included World Taekwondo President Dr. Chungwon Choue, Secretary General Jeongkang Seo, Technical Delegate Philippe Bouedo, Chinese Taekwondo Association Vice President Zhong Chen, and Wuxi Sports Bureau Director Yi Chen. Local athletes Zhaoxun Cai (bronze medalist at the 2024 Asian Taekwondo Championships in Da Nang) and Chuling Zhang (silver medalist at the 2024 Wuxi World Taekwondo Grand Slam Challenge) also attended, alongside WT Vice Presidents and Council Members.

Dr. Choue noted that the event will bring together 991 athletes from 179 Member National Associations, plus participants from AIN, the WT Team, and the Refugee Team, making it the largest edition in history.

“This championship will once again showcase Taekwondo’s global growth and unity. Wuxi is ready to witness another historic moment for our sport,” said Dr. Choue.

Zhong Chen, Vice President of the Chinese Taekwondo Association, stated that local organizers are fully committed to providing the best possible facilities and conditions for all participants. Athletes Cai and Zhang expressed their determination to represent China with fairness and friendship as hosts of this year’s event.

The Wuxi 2025 World Taekwondo Championships will take place from October 24–30 at the Taihu International Expo Center, featuring Olympic champions from Paris 2024, performances by the World Taekwondo Demonstration Team, Poomsae medalists, and a Virtual Taekwondo Experience Zone for fans.

Ahead of the tournament, the World Taekwondo General Assembly will convene on October 23 to elect the organization’s leadership for the 2025–2029 term.

With record participation and strong local engagement, Wuxi 2025 is set to become one of the most significant editions in the history of the sport.
