Outstanding performances recognised at Wuxi 2025 World Taekwondo Championships Closing Ceremony
WUXI, China – The Wuxi 2025 World Taekwondo Championships officially concluded this evening with the Closing Ceremony, where awards were presented to recognise outstanding achievements throughout the competition.

A record 991 athletes from 180 Member National Associations (MNAs), Individual Neutral Athletes (AIN), athletes competing under the World Taekwondo flag and the World Taekwondo Refugee Team participated at the World Taekwondo Championships.
Athletes from 27 MNAs plus AIN won medals in Wuxi, with Türkiye topping the medal table with three golds. Korea, Brazil and Tunisia each collected two golds.
World Taekwondo President Dr Chungwon Choue and World Taekwondo Council members were joined at the Closing Ceremony by the President of the Chinese Taekwondo Association Zhi Zhang and the Deputy Mayor of the Wuxi Municipal People’s Government Lu Min.
President Choue highlighted the huge success of Wuxi 2025, and praised the athletes for delivering a wonderful showcase of Taekwondo.
“As the Wuxi 2025 World Taekwondo Championships come to an end, we celebrate an extraordinary week of excellence, unity and friendship,” President Choue said.
“Over the past days, we have witnessed the best of Taekwondo – passion, respect, and perseverance. Whether or not you won a medal, you have all demonstrated the true values of our sport and inspired the world with your performances.
“The Championships was more than a competition – it was a celebration of harmony among nations and the unifying power of sport. As we conclude this remarkable journey, let us continue to carry the values of Taekwondo – peace, respect, and harmony – to every corner of the world.”
Deputy Mayor Lu said the event had forged even stronger ties between Wuxi and the global Taekwondo community.
“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to World Taekwondo for the trust and support extended to Wuxi,” Deputy Mayor Lu said.
“Tonight, the curtain is about to fall on the Wuxi 2025 World Taekwondo Championships. On behalf of the Wuxi Municipal People’s Government, I would like to extend heartfelt greetings to all athletes and coaches, heartfelt congratulations to the teams and individuals who have achieved outstanding results, and sincere thanks to the referees for their dedication and impartiality, as well as to all staff, volunteers, and support teams who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes.
“I would also like to offer my highest respect to our friends from around the world who have travelled great distances to join us!”
The Closing Ceremony featured individual and team awards, which were presented as follows:
- Active Participation Award – Portugal
- Good Fighting Spirit Award – New Caledonia
- Most Valuable Player Men – Eun Su Seo (Korea, M -54kg)
- Most Valuable Player Women – Luana Márton (Hungary, W -67kg)
- Best Team Coach Men – Mr Yun Bae Nam (Korea)
- Best Team Coach Women – Mr Ali Sarı (Türkiye)
- Best Referee Men – Mr Laith Othman (Jordan)
- Best Referee Women – Ms Suzana Boyd Diaz (Panama)
- Women Team Standings (1st-5th) – Türkiye, Brazil, Hungary, China, Chinese Taipei
- Men Team Standings (1st-5th) – Korea, Iran, Brazil, Uzbekistan, Egypt
The results of the World Taekwondo Athletes’ Committee election were also announced at the Closing Ceremony. All registered athletes in Wuxi were entitled to vote for one male and one female candidate. The candidate with the highest number of votes for each gender was elected to the World Taekwondo Athletes’ Committee.
These were Mr. Mehmet Kani Polat (Türkiye) and Ms. Bianca Cook (Great Britain).
«From all parts of the world, many athletes supported me, and I am really happy about this. My main goal is to be the voice of all Taekwondo athletes from all parts of the world, and bring this to the World Taekwondo family,» said Polat.
The 2027 World Taekwondo Championships will be hosted by Astana, Kazakhstan, and the World Taekwondo Flag Handover took place during the Closing Ceremony.
