World Taekwondo (WT) has officially announced the cancellation of the 2025 World Para Taekwondo Championships and the 2025 World Para Taekwondo Poomsae Championships, following unsuccessful efforts to secure a host city for the events.
World Taekwondo (WT) has officially announced the cancellation of the 2025 World Para Taekwondo Championships and the 2025 World Para Taekwondo Poomsae Championships, following unsuccessful efforts to secure a host city for the events.
The decision was communicated to all Member National Associations through an official letter issued by WT.
Background
In May 2025, two candidate cities withdrew their bids just days before the WT Council meeting, leaving the events without a confirmed host. WT subsequently reached an agreement with Hail City, Saudi Arabia, to stage the competitions. However, when moving forward to finalize the dates and organization, the local organizing committee informed WT that they would not be able to proceed.
Official Decision
As a result, World Taekwondo has taken the difficult decision to cancel both events scheduled for 2025.
According to the document signed by Olof Hansson, Para Taekwondo Director at WT, the bidding process to host the 2026 editions of both championships will open in April 2026. The letter expresses appreciation for the understanding of all Member National Associations and notes that the cancellation came after exhaustive attempts to find an alternative solution.
