Italy Reinforces Focus on Taekwondo Values and Community Engagement

The President of the Italian Taekwondo Federation (FITA), Angelo Cito, took part in a regional meeting held in Puglia, organized by the committee led by Martino Montanaro. The event brought together representatives from various local sports associations (ASD) to exchange perspectives on the current and future development of Taekwondo in Italy.

During his remarks, Cito emphasized that meetings of this kind should not be seen merely as technical gatherings but also as opportunities to listen to and understand the needs of younger generations, while strengthening the connection between coaches and athletes.

He underlined the importance of preserving the fundamental values that have historically shaped Taekwondo in Italy. Cito pointed out that clubs and gyms should remain safe and reliable spaces for families, contributing to the comprehensive development of children and young practitioners.

TaekwondOver Project

One of the key topics discussed was the TaekwondOver project, an initiative aimed at fostering intergenerational exchange within Italian Taekwondo. The program seeks to help younger practitioners reinforce principles such as discipline and respect, while offering older participants renewed motivation and different perspectives through their involvement in the sport.

International Outlook and Humanitarian Foundation

The meeting also included a segment dedicated to the Taekwondo Humanitarian Foundation (THF). Cito explained that starting next year, the organization will be renamed Humanitarian Sport Foundation, reflecting its broader scope and the involvement of multiple sports disciplines.

He highlighted the initiative’s role in the current international context, noting its capacity to convey positive messages through sport, even in regions affected by conflict.

Regional Meetings as a Strategic Tool

The gathering in Puglia is part of a series of regional meetings that FITA has been conducting across different parts of the country. These activities aim to promote direct dialogue with local clubs and coaches, while strengthening coordination and cohesion within Italy’s Taekwondo community.
